ELBESIL OIL and ELBESOL

Silicone oils are fully synthetic oils made from siloxane polymer chains. They are based on silicon and not on carbon like mineral oils or vegetable oils.

The starting point is polydimethylsiloxanes, which are usually referred to as silicone oil.

ELBESIL OILS B

ELBESIL OILS B are polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS). We offer them in viscosity settings from 0.65 to 2,000,000 cSt. They are chemically and biologically inert, water-clear liquids that are largely odorless and tasteless.

The most important properties are

  • -Pronounced hydrophobicity
  • Low influence of temperature on viscosity
  • High temperature resistance
  • Very low dropping point
  • Pronounced surface activity
  • Very low surface tension
  • Good dielectric properties over a wide temperature and frequency range

Reactive polydimethylsiloxanes

Reactive polydimethylsiloxanes are characterized by reactive groups. They are therefore suitable for extended polymerizations or crosslinking coatings.

Polymethylhydrogensiloxane such as our ELBESIL OIL H 20 is used to hydrophobize mineral materials and to improve the flow properties of powders.

OH-end-stopped polydimethylsiloxanes such as our ELBESIL OILs R are linear, colorless and clear.
While ELBESIL Oils B have no reactive groups, the terminal Si-OH groups of ELBESIL Oils R react after the addition of appropriate catalysts and crosslinkers to form a rubber-elastic matrix. They form the starting material for silicone rubbers.

Organofunctional polysiloxanes

Organofunctional polysiloxanes have so-called functional groups, which in some cases fundamentally change the properties of these polysiloxanes compared to polydimethylsiloxanes.

Polyether-modified polydimethylsiloxanes or polyethylene glycol-modified trisiloxanes are water-soluble surfactants that are used as release agents, emulsifiers or wetting agents. These include our ELBESOL 1007 and ELBESOL NM 739.
ELBESOL 1007 is a clear to slightly cloudy, colorless to slightly yellow liquid of medium viscosity. It is miscible with water at room temperature. ELBESOL NM 739 is a very short-chain silicone surfactant which is excellently suited as a wetting agent in aqueous formulations.

Amino-functional polydimethylsiloxanes, reactive and non-reactive like our ELBESIL Oils AM, give coatings or care products a pronounced detergent resistance and high hydrophobicity. They are used in polishes or release agent formulations.
