THE WORLD OF
LUBRICANTS & SLIDING AGENTS

The ones with the special properties.
It’s about reducing friction and wear as well as vibration damping and sealing. Special additional functions are the prevention of squeaking or other noises and thermal conductivity.
We offer all our silicone oils as liquid lubricants, but in particular our LOBOTHERM oils BAP for applications with high temperature loads.
As greases, we also offer our silicone pastes with a solid lubricant content.
Additional requirements are placed on lubricants, such as particularly thin film formation, colorlessness, no tendency to soiling and resistance to static charge. Silicone oils (polydimethylsiloxanes) or formulations made from or with them are particularly suitable for this purpose.
The application possibilities are manifold – please contact us for advice.
All products from L. Böwing GmbH, whether raw material or formulation, are also expressly available ready-made. Tell us what you want in terms of containers and packaging and we will make it happen.
FAQ – THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT LUBRICANTS & SLIDING AGENTS
Why Choose a Manufacturer of Silicone-Based Specialty Lubricants?
Many technical applications place special demands on lubrication and material compatibility. Standard lubricants are often not suitable for this.
We develop silicone-based specialty lubricants specifically designed for plastic-to-plastic or plastic-to-metal friction pairs as well as for sensitive technical applications. The goal is to ensure long-lasting, reliable lubrication combined with high material compatibility and extended service life.
Do You Develop Custom Specialty Lubricants and Slip Agents?
Yes. We develop custom silicone oils, silicone pastes, and silicone greases for demanding technical applications.
Depending on the application, we can tailor the following properties, among others:
- Lubrication performance
- Slip behavior
- Viscosity or consistency
- Thixotropy
- Material compatibility
- Temperature resistance
- Water and weather resistance
- Electrical properties
- Long-term lubrication performance
What Applications Are Your Specialty Lubricants Suitable For?
Our products are used wherever conventional lubricants reach their limits.
Typical applications include:
- Plastic-to-plastic friction pairs
- Plastic-to-metal friction pairs
- Actuators
- Damping elements
- Switches and control elements
- Rails and guides
- Seals and O-rings
- Assembly applications
- Precision mechanics
Do You Develop Lubricants for Actuators?
Yes.
Actuators in particular often require thixotropic lubricants that flow easily during movement but remain in place when at rest.
This helps reduce noise, wear, and lubricant migration.
What Advantages Do Silicone Lubricants Offer Compared to Conventional Lubricants?
Silicone-based specialty lubricants offer numerous advantages, especially in technical applications:
- High compatibility with plastics and elastomers
- Low friction
- Long-term lubrication
- Water-repellent properties
- Weather resistance
- Good aging resistance
- Low evaporation loss
- Reliable performance over a wide temperature range
They are particularly suitable for applications where mineral oils or standard greases are not appropriate.
Which Materials Can Be Lubricated with Your Specialty Lubricants?
Our formulations are specifically tailored to different material combinations.
Typical material pairings include:
- Plastic–plastic
- Plastic–metal
- Rubber–metal
- Elastomers
- Engineering thermoplastics
- Thermosets
Material compatibility is always a key focus of development.
Are Your Specialty Lubricants Water and Weather Resistant?
Yes.
Many of our silicone-based specialty lubricants offer high resistance to moisture, splash water, UV radiation, and weathering.
This makes them suitable for outdoor applications or use in humid environments.
Do You Offer Lubricants for Food or Drinking Water Applications?
Depending on the application, we develop specialty lubricants that can be designed for use in food-related areas or in contact with drinking water.
During development, we already take into account the required regulatory requirements and target markets.
Which Industries Do You Develop Specialty Lubricants For?

- Certificates of Analysis (CoA)
- Product-specific documentation
Can Samples or Development Batches Be Provided?
Yes.
For development projects, we provide samples, pilot batches, or small quantities so that products can be tested under real application conditions.
How Does the Development of a Specialty Lubricant Work?
Our development process includes:
- Analysis of the application and friction pairings
- Technical consultation
- Selection of suitable silicone bases and additives
- Formulation development
- Laboratory and field testing
- Optimization
- Serial production
What Information Do You Need for an Inquiry?
Helpful information includes:
- Friction pair (e.g., plastic/plastic or plastic/metal)
- Temperature range
- Type of movement (sliding, rotating, damping)
- Load
- Environmental conditions
- Material compatibility
- Regulatory requirements
- Desired service life
This allows us to develop the optimal silicone lubrication solution for your application.
How Quickly Can a Custom Silicone-Based Specialty Lubricant Be Developed?
